Smoking Cessation
The Clinics of North Texas recommend cessation of smoking during pregnancy. Smoking can increase your risk of ectopic pregnancy, early breaking of your water, low birth weight, and even preterm delivery. Smoking during pregnancy has also been associated with cleft lip, cleft palate, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Children whose parents smoke are more likely to suffer respiratory illness and ear infections. Ask you provider how to help you quit smoking.
