Abdominal and Pelvic Ultrasound
(This instruction applies only if patient is having both at the same time)
ABDOMINAL AND PELVIC ULTRASOUND
These tests will examine your abdominal organs (gallbladder, liver, kidneys, spleen, pancreas, and aorta) as well as your pelvic organs (uterus, ovaries) using sound waves. There are no known health risks from using these sound waves to make images.
- Do not eat or drink anything after midnight until 1 hour before your appointment. One hour prior to your appointment, drink 24-32 ounces of water. DO NOT EMPTY YOUR BLADDER. You may take medication along with the water.
- An ultrasonographer will make a set of images for the Radiologist. A Radiologist is a medical doctor that specializes in imaging tests. A warm gel will be applied to your abdomen and the ultrasound transducer will be rubbed on your skin.
- The Radiologist will interpret your images and a report will be sent to your doctor. You will receive the report from your doctor.
