Comprehensive Adult Medical Care

Internal medicine physicians complete extensive education and training, including medical school and a minimum of three years of postgraduate training focused specifically on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases.

Internists are often referred to as the “doctor’s doctor” because they frequently serve as consultants to other physicians, helping to solve complex or difficult diagnostic cases.

Despite the name, internal medicine physicians treat much more than “internal” conditions. They care for the whole patient—addressing overall health, chronic conditions, preventive care, and complex medical concerns in adults.
